Munich
I didn't know what to expect of this city. We had it on our list to stay here in 2021, but we all know what brought an end to that trip... we knew we wanted to pay homage to Dauchau and of course the Marienplatz, a beer garden or two, possibly a bike ride in the English Garden. So I was glad to be in a tour group, and get a layout of what the city has to offer. And do we ever want to go back! There is so much we didn't get to see, but save that for another trip

Did you know? Munich acquired its name from the location where Benedictine monks founded a monastery. Historical documents referencing the city date back to 1158.

Quirky! According to history, beer saved Munich from destruction! Back in 1632, the Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus invaded the city and offered to leave them alone, if they returned some hostages, and gave him 600,000 barrels of Hofbrauhaus beer!

Dachau. The CID (International Dachau Committee) and the Bavarian state government respectfully created a memorial site at this former work camp. The exhibition is very well-designed and thoughtful. There is a lot of documentation, pictures, and personal statements collected after WWII and arranged in a historical timeline inside the maintenance building that is still standing today. Sobering.
