Hallstatt & A Working Farm
We made a stop at a wonderful organic farm before reaching our destination. The farm was fully functional, and the owner was an exceptional farmer. She utilized the plants and herbs grown on her land to create a range of products including soaps, facial creams, lotions, jellies, and relishes. Additionally, she harvested honey from a beehive on the property and also had dairy cows that produced various cheeses and dairy products. We enjoyed meeting her and learning about her small farm before continuing our journey to Hallstatt. We were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the village, which was situated in a peaceful location surrounded by mountains. It was love at first sight!
Day11
and 12
Did you know? Hallstatt has the oldest salt mine in the world, dating back 7,000 years!
We enjoyed seeing her farm and we were rewarded with a selection of different cheeses and relishes. We purchased some cheese and a jar of honey with walnuts, which we enjoyed on our boat ride with some wine in Hallstatt.

Quirky! Because there is so little space for cemeteries, bones are exhumed every 10 years and moved into an ossuary (a room bones of the dead are placed in) to make room for new burials
